Working in the woods in the 1960's was arduous work. The stacked 6" lengths of timber all had to be manhandled onto the trailer and the County 4 x 4 was the power horse, able to push and pull empty or loaded trailers to or from anywhere, in any terrain. Such 6" props were destined fore the coalmines.

With snow covering the grass and a large flock of Swaledales, the farmer’s main priority is ‘getting the feed out’, which in this case is hay and sheep nuts. As all-terrain vehicles go, this 1980s Subaru ‘Brat’ pick-up (the first car chassis to be converted into a utility work vehicle) is as good as any and can hold its own in any terrain.

The traditional northern mule ewe, a cross between a Swaledale ewe and a Blue Faced Leicester tup, is an excellent mother. This sculpture portrays a Pony Expressrider wearing his 'duster' as he rides through bad weather. The young riders were famous for their endurance and surviving hazards like raging rivers, blizzards and Indians. Pony Express horses were grain fed, so they could outstrip the Indian horses that were grass fed. Speed mattered most to the riders and to get that record run. One who achieved this was a young William Cody who later became the famous Buffalo Bill.

The Coronation Dress was designed by Norman Hartnell and has elaborately embroided details including the rose of England, thistle of Scotland, Irish shamrock and Welsh daffodil.
